The emergence of COVID-19 led to revived interest in the study of infectious diseases. Mathematical models have become important tools in analyzing transmission dynamics and in measuring the effectiveness of interventions and public policies. However, most actuarial research on COVID-19 tend to focus on fatality and mortality rates and to assess its impact using traditional actuarial toolkits. There is an apparent gap in literature between actuarial and epidemic modeling.
This talk presents fundamentals of epidemic models and reviews recent developments in the literature on actuarial applications of epidemic modeling.
