The School of Bioethics of the Universidad Anáhuac México brought together students and researchers in an event that addressed issues of high ethical and social relevance.
On November 22, 2024, the School of Bioethics of Universidad Anáhuac México held its VIII Winter Research Colloquium, a space for meeting and dialogue where students of the Doctorate in Bioethics together with researchers from various institutions presented research advances on ethical, scientific and social issues of great impact.
The event began with the opening lecture entitled “Justice and the common good in pharmaceutical research” given by Dr. Ricardo Páez, who highlighted the ethical challenges in the pharmaceutical industry and the need for an approach focused on the common good.
Students then shared their research on a wide range of topics, reflecting the diversity and depth of bioethical thinking:
- “Excessive water pollution in Puebla” by José Guillermo Vázquez Pacheco.
- "Analysis of the integration and operation of the Hospital Bioethics Committee of the General Hospital of Zone HGZ36 of the IMSS" by Fernando Ignacio Licona Cervantes.
- "The Do No Harm (DNH) approach to obtaining informed consent from women with intellectual disabilities in a ‘swarm of vulnerabilities’" by Inés Yohanna Pinzón Marín.
- "The person, a spiritual being: Association of the sense of human dignity and the spiritual dimension, analysis from the symphonic bioethical theory" by Jenyfer Jessika Palencia Sierra.
- "Factors associated with Body Dysmorphic Disorder in university students considering the principle of vulnerability, autonomy and non-maleficence - Legal Chapter" by Flor Bernardita Reyes Paladines.
- "Family involvement in the prevention of workplace accidents" by Claudia Gabriela Sánchez Pérez.
- "The paradox of domestic violence in Mexico" by Gilberto Octavio Sandoval Fregoso.
- "An anthropological and bioethical approach to the experience of infertility" by Pía Poulett Bustamante Barahona.
- "Evaluation of the association between the patient's perception of the treatment received and the vulnerability of the hospitalized patient" by Ivonne González Espinosa.
- "The Children Who Are Not Here" by Luis Rafael Gandini Pérez.
The event concluded with a closing reflection by Dr. María Elizabeth de los Rios, who summarized the main ideas presented throughout the day. In her speech, she highlighted the importance of bioethical research as a tool to promote the common good and human dignity. She also invited attendees to continue participating in future colloquia organized by the School.
