Members of our School participate in the IEST International Bioethics Congress

International Bioethics Congress

The School of Bioethics promotes international projection and connection in bioethics during the congress at the IEST-Anáhuac.

 

On June 24 and 25, 2024, the Institute of Higher Studies of Tamaulipas (IEST-Anáhuac) celebrated its 50th anniversary with the 1st International Congress of Bioethics: Person and Human Dignity. Representing the School of Bioethics were Dr. María Elizabeth de los Ríos Uriarte, Fr. Fernando Fabó Martín, L.C., Dr. Lilian Santos, Dr. Martha Tarasco Michel and Dr. José Alberto Castilla Barajas.

 

The activities began with a mass, followed by the official opening of the congress by Rector Gloria Laura Septién Crespo. This event had the participation of important national and international exponents.

 

Dr. Alberto García Gómez, holder of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights, reflected on current biolegal challenges. Dr. Martha Tarasco Michel, professor-researcher at the School of Bioethics and academic researcher at the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights, addressed the issue of chronic medicine and disability from a personalist bioethical perspective.

Dr. Antonio Cabrera, director of CADEBI, highlighted the need to promote linkages and the creation of networks in bioethics, presenting the Observatory of the Ibero-American Bioethics Network (ORIBI). Dr. María Elizabeth de los Ríos, professor-researcher at the School of Bioethics and holder of the Chair of Clinical Bioethics, delved into the encyclical Fratelli Tutti from a bioethical perspective.

 

The second day included presentations by F. Alberto Carrara, L.C., dean of Philosophy at the Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum, on the challenges of neuroethics. Participating virtually, Dr. Lilia Santos, graduate of the Master's Degree in Bioethics, spoke about bioethics and dignity, and F. Fernando Fabó Martín, L.C., professor at the School of Bioethics, addressed the panorama of bioethics. Dr. Francisco Bernardo Fragoso, head of the IEST Bioethics Center, analyzed the Dignitas Infinita declaration from bioethics.

 

Congreso

 

The congress concluded with a presentation by Mons. Roberto Yenny García on support in bioethical discernment and a discussion table moderated by Dr. José Alberto Castilla, director of the School of Bioethics. The closing included a mass that highlighted the importance of promoting a bioethical culture.
