Topics on clinical bioethics and the role of conscientious objection in critical medical decisions generated a valuable debate among health professionals.

 

On October 21 and 22, 2024, the “4th International Conference on Gynecology & Obstetrics”, an event that brought together leading professionals and academics in the field to discuss the latest advances and challenges in gynecology and obstetrics.

 

Among the featured speakers was specialist Patricia Hernández Valdez, member of the School of Bioethics, who presented her presentation titled Clinical Bioethics in Obstetrics and Gynecology: The Role of Conscientious Objection in Crucial Medical Decisions.

 

During her intervention, Hernández Valdez delved into the importance of conscientious objection in critical decisions faced by health professionals in the gynecological and obstetric field.

 

The presentation addressed the ethical dilemmas that arise when physicians must balance their personal convictions with the duty to provide appropriate and timely medical care. Her analysis included examples of situations in which conscientious objection can affect patients, as well as proposals to ensure that their rights are respected. Additionally, the specialist examined how clinical bioethics can provide a framework for the responsible use of conscientious objection, encouraging open dialogue between health professionals and patients.

 

The presentation generated a wide debate among attendees, who shared their experiences and perspectives on conscientious objection in contemporary medical practice. These types of discussions are essential to advance the ethical training of health professionals and ensure that quality care is provided to all patients.
