On August 21, 2024, Dr. Martha Patricia Hernández Valdez, academic at the School of Bioethics, participated in the 19th Nursing Meeting: "Nursing at the forefront in the essential actions of patient safety", which was organized by the government of the State of Mexico through the Mayor's Office and the Social Security Institute of the State of Mexico and Municipalities (ISSEMYM).
This event, held at the Atlacomulco Regional Hospital and aimed at health personnel, brought together experts from the health field to address critical issues in nursing practice.
During her presentation, Dr. Hernández discussed the topic "Application of Bioethics in the nursing professional" and emphasized the relevance of this science in care focused on respect for the dignity and rights of patients: "Bioethics in nursing staff is essential to guarantee care focused on respect for the dignity and rights of patients".
Likewise, she explained that this field helps those who practice nursing to face ethical dilemmas in their daily practice, such as decision making at the end of life, confidentiality and informed consent, reiterating that when applying bioethical principles such as beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy and justice. These personnel not only protect patients, but also promote a humanized and equitable care environment, which is essential for quality care and safety in the health field.
It should be noted that this event was a success, as it allowed us to highlight the importance of Bioethics as an essential tool in nursing practice and its impact on patient safety.
