We commemorate the 30th anniversary of CONBIOÉTICA

Dr. Patricio Santillán Doherty shared his point of view on the current situation of bioethics during the first chair of our Faculty.

On October 5 at the Postgraduate Auditorium of our Anahuac Mexico University, Dr. Patricio Santillán Doherty, National Bioethics Commissioner, gave the first lecture "Current situation and perspectives of the National Bioethics Commission (Conbioética)" to commemorate 30 years of its foundation.

Santillán Doherty is a surgeon specialized in general and thoracic surgery, area of pleuropulmonary surgery. His field of expertise is thoracic surgery, experimental research in surgery, lung cancer, and lung transplantation.

From 1986 to 1997, he collaborated with the Ismael Cosío Villegas National Institute of Respiratory Diseases (INER) as an assigned physician, head of the Department of Experimental Surgery and deputy director of the Surgery area.

At the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition "Salvador Zubirán" he served as head of the Department of Experimental Surgery from 1997 to 2012. During this period he was a member of the Research Ethics Committee, serving as its secretary and president.

In 2013 he returned to INER as medical director, a position he held until January 2022.

He is also a professor of the specialty of Thoracic Surgery, postgraduate academic tutor and professor of the research ethics course of the Master's and Doctorate Program in Medical, Dental and Health Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico, the Mexican Academy of Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the National System of Researchers and the College of Bioethics, which he chaired from 2018 to 2021.
