The also vice chancellor of the Pontifical Academy for Life in the Vatican reflected on Artificial Intelligence in the care of human life.
On January 25, the Inaugural Lecture of the Faculty of Bioethics entitled "The ethics of Artificial Intelligence in the care of life" was held by Professor Renzo Pegoraro, vice chancellor of the Pontifical Academy for Life at the Vatican, an event that was broadcast via Zoom and Facebook and was attended by more than 200 participants.
On this occasion we had the company of Mtro. Jorge Fabre Mendoza, academic vice-rector of the Universidad Anáhuac México, who gave a few welcome words; as well as Father Fernando Fabó Martín, L.C., director of the Faculty of Bioethics; Dr. Juan Manuel Palomares Cantero, general coordinator, and Dr. María Elizabeth de los Ríos, research coordinator.
During his presentation, Professor Renzo Pegoraro addressed ethics in artificial intelligence and its relationship with the Catholic Church. In addition, he presented the constant debate between machines and humans, and how the Church faces challenges in this regard to guarantee a common good.
Monsignor Renzo Pegoraro was born in Padua, Italy, on June 4, 1959. He studied Medicine at the University of Padua, Philosophy and Theology in Padua and Rome, as well as a specialist in Moral Theology and Bioethics. He is a professor of Bioethics at the Triveneto Theological Faculty and scientific director of the Lanza de Padua Foundation. In 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him chancellor of the Pontifical Academy for Life.
