Dr. Liliana Castro addressed the importance of bioethics and sustainability in the creation of medicines, inviting reflection on the role of business ethics in the pharmaceutical industry.

On December 5, 2024, Dr. Liliana Castro Castillo, member of the School of Bioethics, gave the conference titled “Bioethics and bioeconomics in the pharmaceutical industry” during the monthly meeting of the Marketing Committee of the National Association of Drug Manufacturers (ANAFAM), event brought together prominent members of the sector.

In her speech, she provided a detailed introduction to bioethics, underlining its fundamental role in strategic decision-making in the pharmaceutical field and addressed the relevance of business ethics, inviting attendees to reflect on the intrinsic value of the production of medicines and its impact on patient well-being.

Additionally, she explored the relationship between bioethics and bioeconomy, emphasizing the importance of developing medicines in a sustainable and responsible manner. This approach is especially relevant in the context of current economic and environmental challenges, since they offer an ethical perspective to face the challenges of the sector.

This meeting had the participation of Ms. R. Alexandra Luna Orta, executive director of ANAFAM, and members of the Postgraduate Coordination, who participated in the discussions after the conference, allowing the exchange of ideas and representing an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between ANAFAM and the School of Bioethics of Universidad Anáhuac México, paving the way for future joint projects.

Among the notable announcements, it was reported that in January 2025 it is planned to offer an expanded version of the conference aimed at other committees and members of the association, an effort that seeks to extend the impact of ethical reflection on pharmaceutical practices, promoting a more vision comprehensive and responsible for the sector.

Dr. Castro Castillo's conference is emerging as a key step to position the pharmaceutical industry in an ethical framework that combines innovation, sustainability and commitment to public health both nationally and internationally.
