School of Bioethics teaches the course: “Bioethical dilemmas at the beginning of life”

During the Intensive Week of the Doctorate in Bioethics, several activities were carried out that included presentations, a film club, the analysis of a clinical case and a debate between academics, doctoral, master's and bachelor's students.

 

From October 2nd to 6th, the Intensive Week of the Doctorate in Bioethics was held with the teaching of the intensive course entitled "Bioethical dilemmas at the beginning of life" in which topics on the origin of life, cloning, Genetic editing and human improvement from a bioethical point of view.

As the opening ceremony of the course we visited the Basilica of Guadalupe, where a mass was celebrated.

Dr. Manuel Santos Alcántara, director of the bioethics institute at Finis Terrae University, was our guest during the intensive week, and he gave the lectures. Doctor Manuel Santos Alcántara is a Surgeon from the University of Chile, Specialist in Medical Genetics, Doctor in Biological Sciences with a mention in Cellular Biology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, he also has Postdoctorates at the National Institutes of Health, Université de Paris and The Rockefeller University. He has a diploma in Bioethics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He currently works as a full professor of bioethics at the Faculty of Medicine of the Finis Terrae University and is president of the Chilean Society of Bioethics.

 

During the intensive week, 4 conferences were given virtually and in person, attended by around 50 people from Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Costa Rica, as well as from Mexico City and the interior of the Republic. In addition to other activities such as a Cinema club, the analysis of a clinical case and a debate between academics, doctoral, master's and bachelor's students. All of these activities promoted dialogue and the generation of knowledge; in addition, there were rest periods between activities, favoring interaction between attendees and the development of interpersonal and professional relationships. This course was an example of the academic quality with excellent teaching staff that characterizes our faculty.

 

It is important to mention that the teaching staff of our School of Bioethics is made up of professors with specialties, master's degrees and doctorates; Some of them are members of the National System of Researchers (SNI) and the Mexican National Academy of Bioethics.

We thank our guest, Doctor Manuel Santos Alcántara, for his enormous contribution during the intensive course.
