We successfully carried out the General Academy of Professors and Researches of the Faculty of Bioethics

General Academy of Professors and Researches

On this occasion we reflected on the article of the PHD Henk Ten Have entitled "Bioethics needs Bayonets".

On March 30, the general academy of professors and researchers of the Faculty of Bioethics was held, whose objective is to integrate all its members through the exchange of ideas and perspectives on the present and future of bioethics, in addition discuss the article "Bioethics needs bayonets" by PhD Henk ten Have, who is also a professor of the Master in Global Bioethics and associate researcher of our Faculty.

The academy began with the reflections offered by Dr. Fernando Fabó, LC, Dean of the Faculty of Bioethics, on the aforementioned article, the article emphasizes the need for this branch of ethics to address current situations, that deal with social justice, inequality in terms of health and commitment in health care, and that it does so from a comprehensive perspective oriented towards the care and preservation of future generations and, with this, rescue the initial conception of bioethics proposed by Van Rensselaer Potter on the concern for future generations as the main orientation of this discipline.

Similarly, he summarized the need for bioethics, until now known for its roots in international documents, to translate into concrete and practical actions that bear witness to its transformative force. This step must be taken, first, through greater participation in world politics; secondly, it is necessary for bioethics to defend global justice that fights against injustice, marginalization, and exclusion, especially of vulnerable populations and, thirdly, to translate into action what world declarations mark.

Once the Faculty Director's presentation was over, the forum was opened for an exchange of ideas with professors and researchers, among whom Professor Hen ten Have stood out, who, in addition to being the author of the revised article, began a dialogue in the which highlighted the need to think about global problems that are threats to a sustainable future.

This dialogue was very enriching and provided a space to detect areas of opportunity in the practice and teaching of bioethics.

Finally, the academy attendees were divided into groups according to their area of teaching or practice where they could continue to delve into these ideas but specify them in the field of their interference.
