30th General Assembly of the Pontifical Academy for Life

During this event, more than 400 international experts discussed the global crisis and analyzed contemporary challenges and the role of ethics in building a sustainable future.

From March 3 to 5, 2025, the Vatican hosted the 30th General Assembly of the Pontifical Academy for Life, an event that brought together more than 400 internationally renowned specialists to discuss the theme "The End of the World? Crisis, Responsibilities, and Hopes."

During the meeting, the current global crisis was addressed, resulting from the convergence of armed conflicts, climate change, energy crises, epidemics, forced migration, and technological innovation. In this context, Pope Francis sent a message warning of the growing irrelevance of international organizations and emphasizing the need to strengthen effective multilateralism that guarantees the eradication of hunger and the protection of fundamental human rights. He also urged the global community to assume shared responsibility in the search for sustainable solutions to contemporary problems.

The event also fostered an analysis of the relationship between theology and the humanities, emphasizing the profound connection between humanity and nature. In this regard, the need to rethink creation as "co-creation" was raised, promoting a vision based on cooperation and solidarity, in contrast to the dominant individualism in today's society.

One of the prominent participants was Dr. José Alberto Castilla Barajas, director of the School of Bioethics at Anáhuac University Mexico, who represented our institution with the goal of strengthening the importance of ethics in decision-making in the face of global challenges. His participation reaffirms the commitment of this institution and its faculties to promoting interdisciplinary dialogue to address humanity's challenges from an ethical and humanistic perspective.

The Assembly concluded with a call for joint action among academic, religious, and social leaders, underscoring the urgency of a renewed commitment to social justice, environmental sustainability, and respect for human dignity.
