The ceremony acknowledged the students' efforts in completing the master's program.
On September 6th, 2023, we held the closing ceremony for the 5th class of the Master in Global Bioethics online. During the ceremony, the students represented five different countries.
Representing the class, Jude Selvaraj delivered a speech in which he said, "This program has provided us with a structured thought process for making correct decisions and navigating the so-called grey areas that have seeped into our society in the name of relativism, among other factors. It has given us the ability to appreciate different experiences and understand the tensions involved when dealing with cultures and traditions different from our own, especially in the globalized world we live in. This has made us aware of the need to have informed empathy, appropriate sensitivities, and knowledge, all while being acutely aware of injustices. These skills will serve us well as we move forward."
We were honored to have two special guests who addressed the students. Dr. Martha Tarasco from Mexico City, congratulated the new class of 2023. She reminded them of the importance of keeping the person at the center of bioethical decisions. Professor Paul Lee, connected from Seoul, Korea, and also encouraged the students to be like fish swimming upstream, striving to become the best bioethicists. Dr. Jose Castilla, the adjunct director of the School of Bioethics, congratulated the students.
Dr. Maria Ines Girault concluded the ceremony by inviting them to continue participating in the alumni association and to stay connected with the School of Bioethics. She congratulated them on their efforts and encouraged them to go out into the world and use their newly acquired knowledge to make it a better place. She ended by reminding them to follow the motto of Anahuac University, "Overcoming Evil with Good."
Congratulations to the class of 2023!
