Marieli de los Ríos, present at the presentation of the report on AI with an ethical and bioethical approach to CELAM

Dr. de los Ríos collaborated on the drafting of the paper on artificial intelligence, which explores the implications of this technology in various fields, including health, economics, work, ecology, and education.

On March 5 and 6, 2025, Dr. María Elizabeth de los Ríos Uriarte, research coordinator at the School of Bioethics at Anáhuac University Mexico, participated in the final drafting and submission of the document on artificial intelligence (AI) requested by the Knowledge Generation Center of the Latin American and Caribbean Episcopal Council (CELAM), which was prepared by an interdisciplinary group made up of 14 experts from different Latin American countries.

This team of specialists began its work in August 2024 and over the course of this time developed a comprehensive approach that includes an ethical, anthropological, and theological foundation for AI. The report explores the implications of this technology in areas such as health, the economy, the world of work, ecology, and education.

Finally, it compiles pastoral recommendations addressed to the region's 22 bishops, aimed at guiding the use of AI within the framework of the Church's values and principles.

The official presentation of the document took place at the CELAM facilities in Bogotá, Colombia, where it was received by the organization's Secretary General, Monsignor Lizardo Estrada.

With this joint effort, CELAM seeks to contribute to pastoral reflection and action regarding the challenges and opportunities that Artificial Intelligence represents for society and the Church in Latin America.
