A course led by Mtra. Patricia Hernández promotes humanistic values and strengthens ethical decision-making in the hospital setting.
During November 2024, Martha Patricia Hernández Valdez, member of the School of Bioethics of the Anáhuac University of Mexico, directed the course “Introduction to Bioethics” given to 44 members of the health personnel of the Ángeles México Hospital, where Dr. Germán Carrero Chávez, Dr. Angélica Laurent Pavón and Dr. Margarita Otero Lamas also participated.
The four-week program aimed to provide conceptual and practical tools to analyze ethical dilemmas that arise in medical practice and health research, highlighting the interaction between science, technology and human values.
The course addressed fundamental topics such as the history and main bioethical trends, the relationship between bioethics and Mexican legislation, the role of hospital bioethics and research ethics committees, as well as the challenges and opportunities of bioethics in Mexico. These contents seek not only to offer a theoretical basis, but also to promote an interdisciplinary approach in medical decision-making, facilitating the implementation of bioethics committees within the hospital.
In addition, the aim was to strengthen the sensitivity and competence of the medical and administrative staff in the face of the ethical challenges of contemporary medicine, promoting an institutional culture based on humanistic values. By integrating bioethical principles into policy formulation and daily medical care, the hospital reinforces its commitment to ethical and quality care.
This way, the School of Bioethics of the Universidad Anáhuac México reaffirms its commitment to the comprehensive training of health professionals, contributing to the development of a medical practice that prioritizes human dignity and social well-being.
