During her presentation she highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary work and the principles of applied bioethics, as well as strengthening ethical and human commitment in the care of patients in critical situations.
On November 8, 2024, the Palliative Care Bioethics Conference was held at the Children's Hospital of the State of Sonora (HIES), an event that brought together experts from various areas to address essential topics in medical care from a bioethical perspective.
Martha Patricia Hernández Valdez, member of the School of Bioethics, presented the topic “Mexican Association of Bioethics”, whose intervention was a call to strengthen the ethical and human commitment in the care of patients in critical situations, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary work and the principles of applied bioethics.
The day included a series of highly relevant presentations such as:
- Origins and current state of palliative care in the world
- Diagnosis of brain death with a bioethics perspective
- Appropriate assessment and management of pain, and management of opioid side effects
- Making difficult decisions in pediatrics
- Understanding the end of life when it is just beginning
These conferences allowed us to reflect on the medical, ethical and emotional challenges involved in accompanying pediatric patients and their families in moments of great vulnerability.
The School of Bioethics is proud of the participation of Mtra. Hernández Valdez and reiterates its commitment to the training of professionals who integrate bioethics as a pillar in their professional practice, strengthening interdisciplinary dialogue and promoting care focused on the dignity and well-being of the patient.
