School of Communication, present at the Golden Globes 2025

Through the Master's Degree in Transmedia and Entertainment Business Management, its coordinator, Dr. Adriana Fernández Rodríguez, participated as a voter and attended this important ceremony held in Los Angeles.

For the third consecutive year, Dr. Adriana Fernández Rodríguez Macedo, Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Transmedia and Entertainment Companies, participated as a voter in the Golden Globes, attending the ceremony that took place on January 5, 2025 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

Dr. Fernández is part of a small group of just 334 voters from around the world who nominate and select the winners of these awards.

The Golden Globes are the second oldest award in the U.S. film industry, after the Academy Awards, and are now 82 years old. Originally presented by the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association), they opened their doors to foreign critics in order to bring more diversity, film culture and prestige.

The result was excellent, with high quality nominations and awards with a more international flavor. Among this year's awards, highlights include Best Drama Movie for "The Brutalist" and Best Comedy/Musical Actress for Demi Moore, who gave an emotional speech affirming her career. Another surprise was that of Brazilian Fernanda Torres as Best Drama Actress for her performance in the film "I'm Still Here".

Dr. Fernández was able to spend time with actress Jodie Foster, winner of the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Series for "True Detective," and Jessica Gunning, winner of the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries for "Baby Reindeer." She was also able to chat with actors such as Sebastian Stan, winner of the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical, and Tadanobu Asano and Anna Sawai, winners of the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and Best Actress in a Drama Series, respectively, for their stunning roles in Shogun.

We will soon be able to see the influence of the Golden Globes on the Oscar nominations, but there is no doubt that as the ceremony that kicks off the awards season, the winners and speeches will remain at the forefront of voters' minds. Last year, the winners at the Oscars virtually mirrored those at the Globes, signaling a growing culturalization and internationalization of awards that were once perceived as aimed primarily at North American audiences and have now expanded their wings and quality into a more authentic and diverse representation.

The participation of Dr. Fernández Rodríguez, as well as being a personal honor, has highlighted the great responsibility involved in exercising this role in which she represents Mexico and our house of studies, taking the name of the Anáhuac University to international spheres.

*With the collaboration of Dr. Adriana Fernández Rodríguez Macedo, coordinator of the Master's Degree in Transmedia and Entertainment Companies.
