Medical student takes part in international congress in Colombia

At the 11th International Congress on Heart Failure, Heart Transplantation and Pulmonary Hypertension and the 7th Inter-American Congress on Heart Failure, Diego Aguirre participated as a panelist in the session dedicated to pulmonary hypertension in children.
On November 30, 2024, Diego Aguirre Villegas, a second-year student of the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at our Faculty of Health Sciences, participated as a panelist in the session on "Pulmonary Hypertension in Children" during the 11th International Congress on Heart Failure, Heart Transplantation and Pulmonary Hypertension and the 7th Inter-American Congress on Heart Failure – CIFACAH, organized by the Colombian Society of Cardiology and the Inter-American Society of Cardiology (SIAC) in the city of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
This annual congress brings together over 500 leading international specialists in cardiovascular health to present the most recent and relevant advances in cardiology and pulmonary hypertension. It is a significant achievement for a student to have the opportunity to present and represent Anahuac Mexico University as a speaker in a forum of this magnitude, sharing the stage with renowned doctors from Mexico, Colombia and Chile.
Aguirre Villegas, a current member of the SIAC and recently invited to join the Pediatric Heart Failure and Pulmonary Hypertension Chapter of the Inter-American Society of Cardiology, has indicated that this accomplishment is not solely his, but rather, it is a shared achievement with the entire university community.
“Representing my university at international forums such as this conference is, without doubt, a great honor for me. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Antonio Ibarra, Dr. Óscar López, Dr. Claudia Lerma and Dr. Salvador Bueno for their invaluable guidance and support throughout this process, as they are fundamental to the success of this project,” he said in an interview.
He also explained that, thanks to programs like INVESTIGA and the commitment of the faculty, Diego Aguirre has had access to the tools and opportunities he needs for his education.
"This milestone is an important step in our growth as doctors and shows our dedication to being the best. I believe that the new programs we're planning, especially in cardiology, will help us continue growing and making a positive impact. Now, we just need to look to the future," he said.
