Introducing the Bachelor's Degree in Global Development from the School of Global Studies

This new program is designed for students who want to make a difference, who are interested in environmental, social and economic issues and who want to contribute to building a more just and sustainable world.

On the morning of January 29, 2026, the Bachelor's Degree in Global Development from the School of Global Studies was presented at Anáhuac Mexico University’s North Campus in the St. John Paul II Hall. Academic authorities, students, administrators and special guests attended the event and participated in a breakfast.

Almendra Edith Ortiz de Zárate Béjar, the director of the School of Global Studies, delivered the opening speech, in which she noted that graduates of this new program will be agents of change committed to the common good. Their solid interdisciplinary foundation and global perspective will enable them to drive social transformation and promote sustainable development in communities around the world.

The Bachelor's Degree in Global Development is designed for students who want to make a difference, who are interested in environmental, social and economic issues and who want to contribute to building a more just and sustainable world.

Julia Unger was also present at the launch breakfast and, during her speech, she acknowledged that, for this project to be successful, the parties involved would need to engage in dialogue with the local community, understand its dynamics and consider the social context.

“Governments, global companies, international organizations, foundations, media outlets, business chambers and many others face the same challenge: understanding complex contexts, anticipating social impacts and making responsible decisions in an interdependent world. To do so, they need professionals capable of understanding the world in depth and of acting judiciously. Global development studies respond directly to that need,” she said.

Similarly, she asked students to not only have more tools upon completing their studies, but also more questions, greater awareness and a stronger commitment. “International relations are not just agreements between States; they are decisions that affect rights, opportunities and futures. We need professionals who are willing to take on that responsibility,” she said.

Our graduate Marco Pérez also recognized this new bachelor's degree program as innovative, necessary and relevant in such a changing world: “It gives us peace of mind as we take on responsibility in this global world,” he said.

He also believed that this program would encourage critical thinking, enabling students to analyze complex problems and try to understand the world as best as possible.

“It is worthwhile to be accompanied by people who will play a key role. They take a co-responsible stance on global issues and are not indifferent to inequality, exclusion or differences. It is a stance of positive leadership. You embody the university's mission of a humanistic vision by putting individuals at the center,” he added.

Gerardo Trujano Velásquez, the coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Global Development, then presented the program's curriculum, which he said is unique in Mexico but widely recognized in countries in Europe and North America.

“This bachelor’s degree complements theoretical knowledge with practical subjects and workshops. The interdisciplinary of these subjects offers multiple options for specialization, expanding job opportunities and possibilities for postgraduate studies in Mexico and abroad,” he added.

Finally, our rector, Dr. Cipriano Sánchez García, L.C., explained that this degree program was created in response to the urgent need to train professionals who understand the complexity of global studies and who can contribute innovative and responsible solutions from Mexico.

In his message, he recalled that global development is a concrete task requiring knowledge, sensitivity, culture, ethics and a thorough excellent education. “We are not just presenting a new curriculum. What we are doing is working to ensure that our graduates are capable of developing a public service, a social project or a strategy that transcends our borders and has the capacity to positively impact both local and global communities,” he said.

The Global Development program at Anáhuac Mexico University prepares its students to address today's most pressing social, environmental and economic challenges with creativity, leadership and a deep commitment to the common good.
