At the conference, "Advances in translational spinal cord research: from basic mechanisms to near applications," a panel of researchers presented their contributions in areas such as chronic pain, neuroscience, and spinal cord injury.
On December 6, 2024, as part of the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the School of Sports Sciences, the School's Research Coordination, under the direction of Dr. Carlos Cuellar Ramos, organized a symposium entitled "Advances in Translational Spinal Cord Research: From Basic Mechanisms to Near Applications" in the CAD Auditorium on the North Campus, a space that brought together national and international speakers to present their research on the spinal cord and the latest advances in understanding its functioning and various pathological processes.
The participants included Dr. Elías Manjarrez, from the Institute of Physiology of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), who spoke about the medullary hemodynamic system in physiological actions, sharing part of his studies. Similarly, Dr. Rodolfo Delgado Lezama, from the Department of Physiology and Neurosciences of the Center for Research and Advanced Studies (CINVESTAV) of the National Polytechnic Institute, focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying chronic pain.
Dr. Igor Lavrov, from the Department of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and Ilia Borischev, CEO of VIBRAINT RehUp, also shared their contributions. Borischev showed the advances his company has made in the field of spinal cord injury rehabilitation and gave a brief demonstration of a robotic arm that provides mobility to people with spinal cord injuries.
Representing the Anahuac Mexico University, Dr. Cuellar Ramos, Professor and Researcher at the School of Sports Science, presented the progress made in his line of research on spinal cord injury, specifically on a patient who has been admitted to the "Neuromodulation and Physical Therapy to Mitigate the Consequences of Chronic Spinal Cord Injury" protocol, showing a video illustrating the positive progress made by the patient.
