Dr. Cipriano Sánchez García attends the 6th Mexico-Japan Summit of Rectors 2024

During his speech, he presented the integral strategies to address the fragility of human nature and the global environment, as well as his vision of the case of Anahuac Mexico University.

At an event held on September 5, 2024 in the boardroom of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), the panelists Dr. Cipriano Sánchez García, L.C., Rector of the University of Anahuac Mexico; Dr. Santos Guzman Lopez, Rector of the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon; Prof. Toshiya UEKI, Executive Vice President of Tohoku University; Dr. Hiroaki KAWABATA, President of Aichi Prefectural University; and Dr. Fernanda Bueno, Medical Director of Takeda Pharmaceutical, presented their ideas.

Dr. Cipriano Sánchez García, L.C., Rector of Anahuac Mexico University, highlighted the importance of addressing the current challenges in mental health and the environment through an analysis of the current situation and the strategies implemented by the university.

In his presentation entitled "Health: Fragility of Human Nature and the Environment," he said that health, defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, faces significant challenges in today's world. In light of this fact, the rector pointed out that the global health problem arises from a complex environment caused by social inequalities, lifestyles and environmental conditions that affect both the physical and mental health of humanity.

In the field of mental health, he noted that more than 1 billion people suffer from mental or substance abuse disorders, with 75% of these disorders developing in young people under 24 years of age (WHO and UNICEF).

In view of this situation, Anahuac Mexico University has implemented several initiatives, the most important of which are:

• A tutoring, mentoring and coaching program to provide personalized support to students.
• Strengthening family ties through academic programs and events that involve families.
• Integral formation of young people through an educational model of academic excellence that includes the social, spiritual, human and professional spheres through university life projects such as student societies, social action, leadership, pastoral, artistic, cultural and sports programs.
• Student Accompaniment Program, which provides free psychological and educational support.

Regarding the situation of environmental fragility, Dr. Sanchez Garcia emphasized the relationship between human health and the environment. On this topic, the Anahuac, through the School of Social Responsibility, offers bachelor's, master's and PhD research programs and has developed University Social Responsibility initiatives that include:

• Environmental and social education projects
• Applied research in sustainability
• Volunteer and community participation initiatives

"Our commitment is to develop integral leaders who are not only excellent professionals, but also agents of positive change in their communities and in the world," said the rector, urging his colleagues to push for the creation of such schools in more universities.

During his speech, he invited educational institutions to play a crucial role in the formation of individuals who are aware and capable of facing global health and environmental challenges. With its comprehensive approach, Anahuac Mexico University prepares students for professional success and provides them with an integral education to contribute significantly to the well-being of society and the planet.

Finally, Dr. Cipriano Sanchez thanked the organizers of the 6th Mexico-Japan Rectors' Summit 2024 for inviting him to participate in this meeting of university rectors from both countries.
