Championing our Anahuac Lions on the road to Paris 2024

A total of 21 high-performance athletes will represent Mexico in Paris 2024 and compete in 10 disciplines during this major sporting event from July 26 to August 11.

With great pride, Anahuac Mexico University held the Flag Ceremony for the 21 athletes from our Institution who will represent Mexico in Paris 2024. The event took place at the North Campus and was presided over by distinguished university authorities.

The master of ceremonies, Andrea Rodríguez Máynez, opened the event by congratulating all the athletes for qualifying for the games. In her speech, she highlighted the hard work and dedication that each athlete has shown to reach this point.

Members of the Presidium included Dr. Cipriano Sánchez García, L.C., Rector of Anahuac Mexico University; Fernando Rincón Gallardo Elguero, Vice Rector of Integral Formation; María Consolación Caballero Martínez, Director of Anahuac Leadership and Excellence; and Pablo Villalvazo Hernández, Coordinator of the Anahuac ELITE Sports Excellence Program.

Athlete Margarita Hernández Flores was presented with the flag by the Rector, who delivered an emotional message to those present. He expressed his pride and highlighted the honor it represents for the University and for Mexico to have such elite athletes. He also emphasized that physical limitations should never curb one's spirit and that the only limits are those one imposes on oneself. He also thanked the coaches and families of the athletes for their unconditional support, highlighting the commitment and dedication of the athletes who proudly bear the name of the Anahuac. He ended his speech by recalling the essence of the Olympic spirit with the phrase of Pierre de Coubertin: "The most important thing is not winning but doing one's best".

The event included interviews with some of the athletes who will compete in Paris. Paulina Martinez, a law student and competitor in the 52 kg judo category, expressed her pride in representing Anahuac and showed her gratitude for the love and support of the Institution. With the desire to win well and demonstrate the spirit of the Anahuac Lions, she affirmed that "it is a true blessing to lead the athletes".

At the same time, modern pentathlon competitor Duilio Carrillo expressed his gratitude to the University for welcoming him and supporting his athletic pursuits alongside his studies. "It's an honor to be a part of Anahuac," he remarked, emphasizing that his primary motivation is his daughter. This will be the athlete's second time participating in this global sports competition, and he aims to represent Anahuac's values and leadership at the highest level.
