Bernadette Mourra graduates from the Master's program in Global Bioethics
Our graduate makes significant contributions through education and advocacy, empowering women and promoting ethics in the community.
Bernadette Mourra, originally from Palestine and a resident of Bethlehem, successfully completed her English-taught online Master's degree in Global Bioethics offered by the School of Bioethics of Anahuac Mexico University. Thus, she became the only woman in her region with this level of specialization. She is positively impacting her community through education and the promotion of ethics.
After completing her studies, she has shared her knowledge with university students in Palestine, where bioethics is a field yet to be explored: "I have applied my knowledge to educate university students. In Palestine, few people have access to this knowledge, especially in my area," explained Mourra.
As the sole woman with this level of expertise in the region, our graduate is committed to educating the next generation of medical professionals at the university: "The students have shown great interest in the subject and are eager to learn more, which is very gratifying for me," she added.
Bernadette's impact transcends the university classroom, as she also teaches courses at the Al-Liqa Center for Cultural and Religious Heritage Studies in the Holy Land. Her efforts empower women and foster ethical awareness in the community: "I am contributing in two ways: training university students and teaching courses at the center where I work, training women and instilling many values and ethics."
During her master's program, she participated in several impactful projects, highlighting one relevant to her current work: "One important course I enjoyed and found very useful was on Bioethics, Sexuality and Human Reproduction, comparing traditional/religious and secular liberal interpretations of sexuality and procreation." She added that the subject's importance is magnified in a region with diverse religious beliefs and frequent conflicts between religious and secular ideologies.
Our graduate believes this master's degree is unique in its comprehensive approach to modern ethical dilemmas: "Bioethics is very much needed in all aspects of our modern life. In the medical field, for example, professionals often treat patients physically but lack the ethical communication and values necessary for their demanding roles, so values must be applied in all fields to avoid chaos and disaster," she emphasized.
Furthermore, she recommends this program for its crucial role in training ethical leaders: "We need more advocates and regulators to help regulate this world using justice and peaceful methods. Bioethicists are like soldiers defending and protecting humanity and nature. They are the conscience of the world, its mind and heart," she passionately stated.
In closing, she thanked her professors for their dedication and support: "I thank and appreciate Dr. María Inés Girault and my respectful professors for their dedication and patience with us," she concluded.
Her achievements and contributions highlight the profound impact specialized education in Bioethics can have on local and global communities. She is also an inspiring example of how ethical knowledge and values can drive positive and lasting change.
