We kicked off the 2025-2026 academic year with an inspiring message from Monsignor Joseph Spiteri, Apostolic Nuncio to Mexico

Monsignor Joseph Spiteri and our rector, Dr. Cipriano Sánchez García, L.C., reflected on openness to dialogue as a path to hope, education and leadership.
On August 19, 2025, Anáhuac México University inaugurated the 2025-2026 academic year with a solemn ceremony held at the Ángel y Tere Losada Theater of the Anáhuac Mexiquense Cultural Center. This event marked the beginning of the new academic year, strengthening the institution's commitment to academic excellence, leadership with respect and integral education.
The program began with a Eucharistic Mass presided over by the Apostolic Nuncio to Mexico, Monsignor Joseph Spiteri, in the University Chapel. During his sermon, he encouraged the Anáhuac community to embrace their Christian calling with courage and hope. Drawing inspiration from the Book of Judges and the Gospel of Saint Matthew, he reminded everyone that God calls on each person to help build their Kingdom, even in tough times. Using the example of Gideon, he emphasized that the Lord chooses seemingly insignificant people for great missions, calling for trust, humility and service. He concluded his sermon by invoking the Virgin Mary as a spiritual guide on the academic path and reminded us that we are never alone when seeking the common good.

After Mass, the academic ceremony began at the Anáhuac Mexiquense Cultural Center, with the participation of administrators, researchers, academics and student representatives. In the first part of the program, our rector, Dr. Cipriano Sánchez García, presented the university medal as a sign of welcome to the new members of the Rectoral Committee: José Luis Tadeo Rivas Martínez, secretary general, as well as Enrique Tapia Sanz, L.C. and Elisa Ruiz Ladrón de Guevara, vice-rectors of Integral Formation, to whom we wish much success in the performance of their new duties.
Monsignor Spiteri then delivered the inaugural address, reflecting on the role of Catholic universities in the current context. He pointed out that this academic year begins in the second half of the Jubilee Year of Hope, which was decreed by Pope Francis. He emphasized that dialogue and life in communion are essential for navigating a world marked by fragmentation, uncertainty, and conflict.
"The challenge for any Catholic university is to provide its students with an authentic experience of unity and human fraternity. It's not just about providing intellectual training, which is obviously important, but also about helping students become truly mature individuals capable of developing themselves not only in their disciplines or scientific skills, but also in essential human relationships,” he said.
Similarly, he urged promoting an education that combines knowledge with spiritual and ethical values. This type of education can cultivate Christian hope and offer concrete solutions to the social, environmental and cultural challenges of our time. He also discussed the Church's commitment to using education as a tool for transformation and peace.

Meanwhile, in his message to the university community, our rector, Dr. Cipriano Sánchez García, L.C., emphasized the importance of training leaders with a global vision and social commitment who are prepared to respond to the challenges of a digital, changing, competitive world. He commented that Anáhuac México University's educational mission is anchored in Christian humanism and the integral development of the individual.
"Our greatest challenge is guiding our students in their search for knowledge toward a truth that combines the humanist tradition with the demands of a digital, global world," he said.
He outlined four strategic lines that will guide the institution: academic excellence, integral education, social engagement, and institutional quality. He emphasized the importance of promoting critical thinking, mental health, entrepreneurship and professional ethics as essential components of the educational process.
Finally, the rector officially opened the 2025-2026 academic year, wishing students, professors and administrative staff a year of personal and educational growth driven by faith, collaboration and a commitment to the common good.
