At Anahuac University, we work for the safety and health of all those who make part of our community, that is why we share the recommendations given by the World Health Organization (WHO) as basic protection measures against the new coronavirus (COVID- 19). While it is true that there have been no cases in our country, it is always important to stay alert.
Recommendations to take at home or if you travel abroad:
-
Wash your hands frequently; use alcohol-based hand sanitizer or soap and water.
Why? Kills the virus if it is in your hands.
-
Practice respiratory hygiene
When you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth and nose with your elbow bent or with a handkerchief; throw away the handkerchief immediately and wash your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, or with soap and water.
Why? The spread of germs and viruses is prevented. If you sneeze or cough by covering yourself with your hands, you can contaminate the objects or people you touch.
-
Maintain social distancing
Maintain at least 1-meter distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
Why? When someone with a respiratory illness (such as COVID-19 infection) coughs or sneezes, projects small droplets that contain the virus. If you are too close, you can inhale the virus.
-
Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
Why? Hands touch many surfaces that may be contaminated with the virus. If you touch your eyes, nose or mouth with contaminated hands, you can transfer the virus from the surface to yourself.
-
If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early.
-
If you have traveled to an area of China where the presence of COVID-19 has been notified, or if you have had close contact with someone who has traveled from China and has respiratory symptoms, notify the health system.
Why? Whenever you have a fever, cough and shortness of breath, it is important that you seek medical attention immediately, as these symptoms may be due to a respiratory infection or another serious condition. Respiratory symptoms with fever can have various causes, and depending on your travel history and personal circumstances, COVID-19 could be one of them.
-
If you have mild respiratory symptoms and no history of travel to China, carefully practice respiratory hygiene and handwashing (mentioned above) and stay home until you recover, if possible.
What is the coronavirus?
At the end of December 2019, several cases of pneumonia were reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) in Wuhan, a city located in the Hubei province of China. It turned out to be a virus different from those that are currently known and of which it was unknown how it could affect people.
On January 7, Chinese authorities confirmed that they had identified a new coronavirus, a virus that causes a common cold and diseases such as MERS and SARS. The new virus was referred to as COVID-19.
