Experts in Palliative Care address the great problem that exists worldwide due to the lack of integration of health policies.
On October 20, the Ibero-American Symposium on Palliative Care was held with the participation of Dr. Fernando Fabo L.C .; Dean of the Faculty of Bioethics and Dr. Adriana Temples, associate researcher at the Faculty of Bioethics, who gave the welcomed words, as well as participation in the round table: "The reality of Palliative Care in Latin America" by Dr. Mario López Saca; the vice president of the El Salvador Palliative Medicine Foundation, Dr. Alejandro Vargas Bermúdez; President of the Costa Rican Association of Palliative and Pain Medicine, Dr. Vanessa Orellana Caro; from the Oncology and Palliative Care Service Hospital de Clínicas Universitario de la Paz, Bolivia, Prof. María de Jesús de la Ossa Sendra; of the AECPAL Research Group. Cudeca Foundation, Spain Dr. Mónica Osio Saldaña; President of the Mexican College of Palliative Care and Support and Dr. Andrea Poc; member of the Palliative Care Committee of the Argentine Medical Association.
We continue with a keynote conference by Dr. Patricia Bonilla Sierra, President of the Latin American Association Palliative Care. And with the presentation of the Book "Comprehensive Pain Management, Pain relief as a human right" by Prof. Karla Vanessa Rodríguez Rodríguez and Dr. Nancy Elizabeth Rangel Domínguez, both professors at the Universidad Anáhuac México of the Faculty of Bioethics.
The symposium discusses the implementation of the Standards and Guidelines for palliative care as well as public policies, human resources, and infrastructure, within the different countries, as well as the distribution of resources for access to opioids in the matter regarding palliative care. The different disciplines involved in palliative care were also exposed and various proposals and programs that exist to seek to improve the quality of medical care in relation to palliative care and pain control centers were presented.
Among the presentations, much emphasis was placed on the great problem that exists worldwide due to the lack of integration of health policies, and the lack of training in pain management to have access to opioids.
