“It is really an epochal change and it comes with new challenges in the words of the Holy Father Pope Francis. The digital galaxy and specifically artificial intelligence is at the very heart of the epochal change. It is not a time of change, but is, it is really a change of this time and we need to understand this in order to accept these new challenges. Artificial intelligence is currently at a point of development never seen before, promising great benefits that transcend into different social spheres. One problem in this regard is the apparent neutrality of the algorithms used in their programming and their impact on a large scale in relation to the discrimination generated from the biases immersed in them, coming from their designers. This is the result of a partial view of reality and the person himself. The solution to segregation can be found not only in the so-called parities, which are a response intended to compensate for errors in programming and result in inequalities in opportunities and privileges for certain groups, but in a look at the whole person.

This article reflects on the regulatory reforms that have taken place in recent decades with respect to the rational use of drugs, and the measures taken to reduce pharmaceutical expenditure. In this context, the high cost of biological therapies and the difficulties of access to them —especially in developing countries— should be highlighted. Biosimilar drugs have analogous health guarantees —similar or equivalent— to reference drugs but are not subject to patent protection and facilitate accessibility for patients, as well as the equitable distribution of therapeutic resources. In addition, some of them are included in the list of essential drugs of the World Health Organization (who).
