What I am doing as a
Bioethicist that I would like to share?
1. How have
your studies in bioethics complemented your professional and personal life?
My studies in bioethics
have complemented both my professional and my personal life wonderfully. Professionally, this
master gave me the opportunity to consolidate and increase my previous education, and this did
not go unnoticed around me! During the master and after it, I had the opportunity to write some
papers, to give lectures, to be consulted by some associations working in the field of health.
Personally, the master opened my mind since I could increase my knowledge, exchanging my
experience with classmates all over the world, learning different methods of inquiry and new
approaches to life and ethics.
2. Are you
currently working on a project related to bioethics?
Yes, I am working in
some project. Primarily, I am a part-time university lecturer at the Higher Institutes of
Religious Sciences "Giovanni Paolo I" (Treviso and Belluno, Italy) where I teach a
course in Global Bioethics.
3. Have you
given a presentation or conference in relation to bioethical issues?
Yes, in this period I
have given some conferences in relation to bioethical issues, especially for a pro-life
association in order to present major ethical issues arising at the beginning of life (Uniti per
la Vita- UPV). Second, in May I will participate to an interreligious conference on organ
donation, promoted by the Italian Association of Organs Donors (AIDO), which aims to sensitize
on the subject of solidarity trough postmortem organ donation.
4. Do you have
any publication in bioethics/ethics?
Yes, I published a
paper in an Italian journal ("Etica per le professioni"): S. GIROTTO, Il Covid-19 nel
contesto della salute globale, Etica per le professioni, 2020 (1), pp. 7-16.
5. Do you
belong or are you a member of any association/committee related to bioethics/ethics? Which
one? Since when?
Yes, I belong to
"Lanza Foundation", an important Centre of ethics in Padova.
6. Do you
recommend the postgraduate program you were part of? What was your experience?
Yes, I absolutely
recommend it. On an academic ground, as far as I know, it is the only existing international
Master on Global Bioethics, and one of the few Masters in global bioethics with a so complete
and broad view, including courses on the most important disciplines relating to bioethics and
global bioethics. Moreover, the daily exchange with classmates living in other parts of the
world has allowed me to strike up new bonds on a personal and professional ground, letting me
know different ethical and cultural approaches. Thus, you both study and concretely experience a
global approach to bioethics.
This has been
amazing!
