Throughout this article, preliminary results obtained in the creation of the Ibero-American Bioethics Atlas are presented, and institutional and scientific exchange in the region is promoted.
The Anahuac Center for Strategic Development in Bioethics (CADEBI) published the article "Institutional Development of Bioethics in Ibero-America: Preliminary Results of the Ibero-American Bioethics Atlas" in the April-June 2024 edition of Medicine and Ethics.
Throughout this article, preliminary results obtained in the creation of the Ibero-American Bioethics Atlas developed by this Center are presented regarding the identification and analysis of existing Bioethics institutions in this region of the world.
Through a methodology that involved exhaustive document review via search engines, databases, social networks, and other sources, the gathered information was categorized for analysis. An initial diagnosis identified 157 institutions in 25 countries. Additionally, it was found that the highest institutional concentrations are located in Spain (29), Mexico (26), Argentina (17), Brazil (13), Chile (11), and Colombia (8).
The importance of the 23 identified national commissions that significantly contribute to the institutional development of Bioethics in the region is also highlighted, considering the relationship between the scientific and technological advancement of countries and the development of this discipline.
Based on the results, the creation of an Observatory of the Ibero-American Bioethics Network is proposed to document and promote institutional and scientific exchange in the region, along with some recommendations derived from this work.
