Caring with Ethics: A Talk by Dr. Ríos on Uro-Oncological Practice

Dr. Víctor Manuel Ríos Dávila gave a presentation on medical practice from a bioethical perspective at BINCA's monthly sessions.

On April 2nd, we had the privilege of having Dr. Víctor Manuel Ríos Dávila, Urologic Oncologist, participate in an enriching presentation on uro-oncological medical practice from a bioethical perspective, as part of the monthly Food for the Brain sessions, organized by the Anáhuac Clinical Bioethics and Neuroethics group (BINCA).

Dr. Ríos began his presentation by offering a general overview of bioethics, addressing its philosophical and ethical foundations, and referencing key authors and significant historical events that have shaped the evolution of the discipline. This introduction laid the groundwork for understanding the relevance of ethical principles in medical practice.

He then shared his personal experience as a urologist, emphasizing how he applies core bioethical values—autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice—in his daily work. One of the central topics of the talk was informed consent, which he described as a fundamental tool for respecting patient autonomy and building a doctor–patient relationship grounded in trust and mutual respect.

The lecture featured real clinical cases that illustrated how Dr. Ríos approaches complex ethical decisions and the follow-up protocols he employs in his practice. This segment was particularly appreciated by attendees, who praised the clarity with which he addressed scenarios that require a delicate balance between medical practice and human sensitivity.

The session concluded with a thought-provoking Q&A session that fostered a rich exchange between the speaker and the audience.
