This academic space brought together personalities from Italy, Spain, Peru, the United States, Chile, Argentina, and Mexico to dialogue and collaborate between Bioethics organizations and institutions of personalist inspiration.
The Anahuac Mexico University, through the Anahuac Center for Strategic Development in Bioethics (CADEBI), hosted the Conference, Meeting and Assembly of the International Federation of Personalist Bioethics (FIBIP), founded by Monsignor Elio Sgreccia in 2003, at the Center for Postgraduate Studies from October 10th-12th, 2023, with the theme “Personalism is change: Dialogue with science and culture.”
This Federation brought together various personalities from countries such as Italy, Spain, Peru, the United States, Chile, Argentina and Mexico in person and virtually, with the aim of opening a space for dialogue and collaboration between Bioethics organizations and institutions of personal inspiration.
During the inauguration, Dr. Lorena Martínez Verduzco, Academic Vice-Rector of our University, reflected on the importance of Bioethics and the need to always place the person at the center, both in academic reflection and research work, as well as in daily actions.
These four days of academic work allowed attendees to reflect on the new arguments of personalism, its dynamism in connection with social responsibility in light of the encyclical Laudato si' and the contributions of personalism at the end of life, as well as its relationship with Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Among the topics that were discussed, the following stand out:
“Personalism: new arguments and spaces for dialogue with contemporary culture”, by Dr. Rodrigo Guerra López, from the Center for Advanced Social Research (CISAV).
Personalism and social responsibility: a response to Laudato si’ by Dr. María Elizabeth de los Rios Uriarte (Faculty of Bioethics), Dr. Antonio Cabrera Cabrera, L.C. (Anáhuac Center for Strategic Development in Bioethics) and Prof. Carlos Cárdenas Artigas (Social Responsibility), all from Universidad Anáhuac México.
“Personalism as a contribution to the end-of-life situation” by Joseph Maeney (National Center for Catholic Bioethics of the United States).
“Contributions of personalism to AI, rescuing the person from the data” by Dr. Dario Sacchini and Father Rubén Revello (Catholic University of Argentina).
This meeting, which also included the presentation of the new BIFIP authorities, the constitution of new structures and the vote on the so-called Final Declaration, was conceived as an opportunity to strengthen ties and promote collaboration at an international level in the search for the defense of life and the person.
