The ORIBI continues to work on the development of the Interactive Atlas of Bioethics

Throughout the period 2023-2024, CADEBI has been working from ORIBI on the development of the Interactive Atlas of Bioethics. The purpose of this project is to facilitate the exchange of information among bioethics institutions in the Ibero-American region, promoting the creation of a community committed to the defense and promotion of human dignity. The atlas also seeks to be a space for interaction where good practices are shared and cooperation is promoted throughout Ibero-America.

Members of CADEBI will participate in the V International Congress of Medicine "Global Health"
|
|
|
|
The international campus of the Anáhuac Cancún University hosted the fifth edition of the RUA International Congress of Medicine, from October 24 to 26. On this occasion, CADEBI contributed with 2 keynote presentations and the presentation of 5 free papers. This meeting generated an environment for the exchange of scientific knowledge, allowing medical students to update themselves on the topic of Global Health.

ORIBI present at the II Forum of Academic Bioethics Journals of the Médica Sur Hospital

In this forum, which was held in a hybrid manner on October 22, different magazines and gazettes focused on the field of Bioethics participated. Among the participants were: the Journal of Medicine and Ethics of the School of Bioethics of the Universidad Anáhuac México, the Medical Gazette of the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico, Bioethics UpDate of the Universidad Panamericana, Anales Médicos of the ABC Hospital, the Gazette of the University Program of Bioethics (PUB) of the UNAM and the gazette of the National Commission of Bioethics (CONBIOÉTICA).

We successfully held the second meeting of the CADEBI Advisory Council

During the meeting, the progress of the projects developed during the first half of 2024 was analyzed, highlighting the commitment and cooperation between the 22 international members from seven countries.

What are experimental treatments? Author: Dr. Ignacio Ricaud Vélez This manual focuses on explaining experimental treatments and research in human beings from a bioethical perspective. It addresses the fundamental ethical principles, such as autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice, that guide medical research.

Dr. Jennifer Hincapie Sánchez, director of the University Program of Bioethics, UNAM and advisor to CADEBI, presented on September 27 the paper "Ethical dilemmas in decision-making in medical practice, within the framework of the Seminar on Medicine and Health, organized by the Faculty of Medicine of the UNAM. She was accompanied as commentators by Dr. Ruben Argüero Sánchez (photo), professor emeritus of the UNAM and Dr. Fabiola Barrón Maldonado. The event was moderated by Dr. Mario Jacobo Cruz Montoya, coordinator of Basic Sciences at FACUNAM.

Dr. Alberto Carrara, L.C. rector of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical Ateneu Regina Apostolorum and advisor to CADEBI, participated on October 14 in the 1st Seminar on Artificial Intelligence in Teaching, Research and Extension: impacts and challenges is an event held by the Episcopal Vicariates of the Archdioceses of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. the Universities Sector of the CNBB and the Pastoral Universitária Regional Sul 1 – CNBB. The event aimed to explore the implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the educational context, addressing both the benefits and challenges that this technology brings to research and extension.

Dr. Elena Postigo participates in Podcast about Catholic culture and family

|
Dr. Elena Postigo, director of the UFV Bioethics Institute and advisor to CADEBI, participated in the Dalroy club to talk about Bioethics and transhumanism. In the episode he spoke about the risks of new emerging and converging technologies, the main ingredient in the transhumanism project, and about the best way to incorporate them into our society with respect for life and the dignity of people.

Dr. Rubén Revello, director of the Institute of Bioethics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA) and advisor to CADEBI, participated in the organization of the I Conference on Bioethics and Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Perspectives, on October 16. In addition to participating in Table 2 Neurosciences, Neurotechnology and AI and giving a speech for the closing of the event.

Dr. Patricio Santillán Doherty gives a conference on the current framework and the challenges in the future of Mexican Bioethics

|
|
Dr. Patricio Santillán Doherty, National Commissioner of Bioethics and advisor of CADEBI, gave the keynote lecture on September 26 "Current situation and challenges in the future of bioethics in Mexico", this within the framework of the Permanent Seminar on Bioethics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

The members of CADEBI deeply regret the death of Father Jorge Ferrer, SJ.

Dr. Jorge Ferrer contributed significantly to CADEBI and to the development of Bioethics in the region, contributing his vast experience and his profound vision on contemporary ethical challenges. His critical thinking, always based on the values of respect for human dignity, enriched our work and guided the growth of the center. Beyond his intellectual contributions, those of us who were fortunate enough to know him remember his humility, his generosity and his ability to listen and accompany those around him. His tireless dedication to teaching and promoting bioethics leaves us with an invaluable legacy that we will continue to honor in our work.
