Abstract
The aim of this document is to analyze the relationship between the implementation of Community Based Tourism –CBT– and the reduction of multidimensional poverty in rural households in Mexico, from 2010 to 2018. For this, a multinomial logit model is used. The data were obtained from databases of poverty of the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy –CONEVAL–, and from databases of the National Household Income and Expenditure Survey –ENIGH–. The results reveal that the CBT is a model of tourism governance that contributes to decrease multidimensional poverty in rural households in Mexico, emphasizing that the greatest effect is shown on extreme poverty situations. Advancing from a condition of extreme poverty to one of moderate poverty constitutes a titanic change, not only because people can increase their ability to satisfy their basic food needs and their well-being, but also because their conditions of vulnerability are reduced.
